It looks like the checks have stopped coming in for singer Ruben Studdard. The former American Idol winner and his soon to be ex wife Zuri owe $180,216.73 in federal taxes from 2009.
This isn’t the first time that Ruben has been in trouble with Uncle Sam. In 2008 there was a tax lien filed against him in the state of Alabama for $200,000.

After living in separate homes for a year, Ruben filed for divorce on October 12 of this year citing “a complete incompatibility of temperament” as the reason behind the split.
Surati Zuri McCants claims Ruben Studdard who is giving her a $500 a month allowance has “substantial income” and she is requesting spousal maintenance and support and “an equitable division of all marital property.” She’s also asking for the following …
• to be the sole occupant of their home
• keep the 2006 BMW 530i she got as a Christmas gift
• attorney feesAlthough she signed a pre-nuptial agreement, McCants is claiming that she did not “receive a fair and reasonable disclosure of liabilities and income” from Studdard. “The disclosure .. is woefully inadequate and meaningless that it smacks of fraud and deception.”
I hope the velvet teddy bear has a lawyer made out of steel.

Reps for singer Reuben Studdard announced earlier today that the former American Idol winner has split from his wife of three years.
Ruben and Surata Zuri McCants were married on June 28, 2008 in Mountain Brook Alabama.
Studdard and McCants met while he was signing autographs at a Wal-Mart. Ruben’s reps say “Ruben and Zuri have gone their separate ways”
Welp…I guess the Velvet Teddy Bear will be recording his next album inside of Marvin’s Room.
