MADAGASCAR 3 TOPS THE WEEKEND BOX OFFICE

DreamWorks Animation’s “Madagascar 3:  Europe’s Most Wanted”‘ reigned supreme at the box office over the weekend by bringing in $60.4 Million.  The family friendly flick that brought together the voices of Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, Jada Pinkett Smith and David Schwimmer beat out “Prometheus” which came in second place with $50 million in sales.

1. “Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted,” $60.4 million ($75.5 million).

2. “Prometheus,” $50 million ($39.2 million international).
3. “Snow White & the Huntsman,” $23 million ($24.6 million international).

EDDIE MURPHY WILL PLAY MARION BARRY IN NEW BIOPIC

SHOWTIME SAYS…

Eddie Murphy will play D.C. politician Marion Barry in  a new movie that will be directed by Spike Lee.

The HBO film will be written by John Ridley and focus on Barry’s 30-plus years in D.C. politics. No word yet as to when the movie will begin filming, but I can’t wait to see how Eddie does in Barry’s infamous hotel crack bust scene.

SHOWTIME SAYS…

According to TMZ we might be able to see Chris Tucker and Ice Cube playing the roles of Smokey and Craig one more time in the near future. They caught up with original ‘Friday’ cast member Tiny ‘Debo’ Lister who told them that Chris Tucker flew him out on a private jet to discuss the possibilities of making the fourth instalment in the ‘Friday’ franchise a reality. You may recall that Tucker played Smokey in the original movie, but refused to appear in any of the sequels becuase of his religious beliefs and was replaced by Mike Epps. Lister said that Cube and Tucker have a meeting set up to discuss the possibilities of making the film happen.

A TRIBE CALLED QUEST DOCUMENTARY COMING TO DVD

This is awesome news!!!! It was announced today that “Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of a Tribe Called Quest will be available on DVD and Blue Ray on October 18th.

The film which was directed by Michael Rappaport has been receiving critical acclaim at showings across the country, and I personally can’t wait to see it.

Make sure you pick it up at a Red Box near you…

He is the funniest comedian on the planet right now and he is bringing his Laugh At My Pain Tour exclusively to AMC movie theaters around the country.  Kevin Hart has come a long way and his recent comedy tour sold out arenas around the country and brought in about $15 million in ticket sales.  The Laugh At My Pain movie hits theaters on September 9th.
